Abstract

The presented master thesis describes the development of a control algorithm for a half-bridge with an active-clamped current-fed push-pull converter. This topology is as well isolating as bidirectional and was realeased in [5]. First, the circuit diagram is being reduced to the most important components for each individual direction of energy flow. Subsequently the most common approaches of DC/DC converter control are summarized and appropriate structures are introduced. Suitable control algorithms are developed according to the earlier simplified circuit diagram. To achieve this, the system is described by the State Space Averaging Method. The model accounts that DC/DC converters behave differently in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) and Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM). Furthermore, the layout of this DC/DC converter allows an increase in Efficiency by using Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS). In order to facilitate this in closed-loop operation the system behavior is investigated and a adapted model is presented.
Based on the developed models transfer functions are calculated and an accurate control structure is selected. Using the bode plots of the transfer functions the parameter of the controllers can be determined. The control algorithms that are based on simplified circuit diagrams are verified by a simulation model. To accomplish this, the algorithm is implemented as Java code. Statements about the stability and dynamics of the system can already be made with help of the simulation model. The software code in the microcontroller (µC) is changed in regard to the implemented control. Furthermore, the C-code has to be adapted to the quick reaction time. Finally, measurements are made with the developed control algorithms to proof their functionality.
